Over 2 Million Flock to Kampong Speu for Khmer New Year Celebrations, Marking a 30% Increase

Kampong Speu, April 18, 2024 – During the Khmer New Year festivities from April 13 to 16, 2024, Kampong Speu witnessed a significant surge in tourism, drawing approximately 2,103,915 visitors, including 2,102,247 domestic tourists and 1,668 from abroad.

This year's event saw a dramatic increase in attendance. Over the four-day period, 2,042,085 people visited the Kampong Speu Sankranti 2024 event, a remarkable 324% increase from the 482,090 attendees during the same period in 2023.

The breakdown of visitors includes:

2,041,007 domestic tourists during the 2024 celebrations, up 324% from 481,765 in 2023.

1,078 international tourists, marking a 232% increase from the previous year’s count of 325.

Mr. Sor Soputra noted that this year’s Khmer New Year festivities in Kampong Speu proceeded smoothly, safely, and enjoyably. The successful organization of the event can be attributed to meticulous planning and execution by local authorities, competent agencies, security forces, and the active participation of all stakeholders, including the local community.
